Contest rules

Read these before joining the contest.

Before the contest

Enter your name as it should appear on your certificate.

Ask your instructor for the class code, then choose your class and contest language when you register. Complete the final five practice problems with a full score before joining the contest.

During the contest

Return using the same browser you used for practice. Your contest entry must be approved before you can enter the arena.

You have three hours to answer five programming problems in your chosen language.

Stay in full screen and keep the contest tab open. Leaving full screen, switching tabs or switching apps once gives a warning. A second violation disqualifies you. Full screen is not required for practice.

Use Run Code to try your own input and Save to keep your draft. Check Code tests your answer and updates your score. Choose Finish only when you are done; you cannot submit afterward.

Fair participation

Work on your own. Do not talk to other contestants, look at their screens, or use answers from someone else.

Write a solution that works for the problem, rather than returning answers for a few known inputs. Be ready to explain your code if an organizer asks.

Tab, full-screen, paste and submission activity is monitored.

Ranking and recognition

Ranking is by total best score, then shorter time to achieve that score. Separate leaderboards are maintained for Python, Java, C++ and C.

All participants receive a Certificate of Participation. The top three are Champion, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up and receive recognition. The champion advances to the Regional ICpEP Challenge, except for Java.
